Skil Cordless Drills Review – Here’s the "Unbiased" Truth

Sunday, May 16th, 2010

Are Skil Cordless Drills as good as many claim? Here is an unbiased review to help you find out:

Models

They offer a 18v, a 12 v, a 14.4v, and a 7.2v model. Pretty much the same size as all the other companies offer.

How do they stack up?

Here is a review of each model to help you find out:

7.2v

As you might expect you aren’t going to any major construction sites with this one-it’s purely for recreational use. As you might except its’ very light and therefore easy to carry around, which is one of the benefits of not having much power.

Size

It’s small so it can fit into tighter spaces a larger model couldn’t.

Power

They are NOT capable of using 3 inch screws, but obviously that’s to be expected. On the whole they have more oomph than you’d think.

Price

This Skil Cordless Drill is obviously cheap-you can usually get it for under $50. Get this if you have very minuscule projects to work on-NOTHING large scale.

12v

This is their “middle of the road” one.

Price

It’s only $56-MUCH cheaper than a lot of other 12vs. It is quite durable… but the MAIN negative is that it only includes 1 battery.

Specifications

It goes to 700 RPMs-not very high compared with other 12vs, and as a 3/8inch keyless chuck. Again, this is mostly for smaller projects, although it handles them a little more adequately than the base model.

14.4v

This one sells for around $80, has a 3/8inch chuck, and a 2 speed that goes to 375 and 1400 RPMs…. Obviously a SERIOUS bump in power from the previous 2. This is the one I would recommend for the average homeowner.

18v

This is obviously their “heavy hitter”-relatively speaking. It still only goes for $90-VERY CHEAP when you consider the size… but it’s not as powerful as most other 18vs. what you sacrifice in performance you gain in price.

The VERDICT

For the most part the Skil Cordless Drills are more suited for homeowners than construction sites. They won’t blow you away but they are a cheap alternative and mostly reliable.

A Review of Table Saws

Monday, January 18th, 2010

There are a wide range of saws. Not everyone saw was designed to make the same kind of cut. Saws differ in the type of cuts they can do and how they should be used. Bosch Bulldog Rotary Hammer Power Tool Review

Monday, December 28th, 2009

Bosch makes some of the best power tools in the world and the Bosch Bulldog hammer drill is a perfect example. Right out of the box, was the first element, we have found the case and the large Bosch logo. Is when you open the case, we noticed a lot of space, more than enough to be bits, chisels and screws. This wear, a nice feature. We know that there is only one case, but the additional space for peripheral parts of tools saves trips back from the car.

After picking up the tool, the first feature, it was noticed that we,the weight. The Bosch Bulldog hammer drill was very light and weighs 6.25 kilograms. I was a little surprised, I thought it would be more weight. The Bosch was very light, so the balance between the front and rear hand hand grip is nice. On the front of the tool, you can go and fourth in the drill, hammer or rotary hammer with a good position to choose. The handle is a "D-Handle", which means there is a user more control when you are over your head or on the floor. The "D: handle is a very niceFunction because the control is essential if this type of power tool. The only downside to a D-grip is sometimes difficult to get her into tight spots, but that's not a bad trade off! We really like the SDS system. The bit into place by retracting the feed and drop it to the SDS system is nice if you use a variety of different bits or chisels. The disadvantage of a SDS system is that the bits usually be a little more expensive, but we think they are worth the extraCosts.

We ran the Bosch hammer drill through some tests. We used a chisel to break a few bricks and holes for Tapcon. We conducted several other tests, but those were the two most important tests we wanted. Monitor

The first test was with a chisel to break some bricks, which was placed in a cement plant sidewalk. Also blocked the SDS-bit system, chisel right into place without problems. We set the slider to hammer and went into the city. The D-grip was very nice as we could control theBosch hammer easily. We busted about half the way to walk very fast (18 minutes) and we do not have the feeling that a lot of pressure on the back. The tool was rather cool as we do not feel much heat produced from the Bosch hammer drill. Once we have a half had finished, we have tried to drill another (Different brand names that we put in another review). This had no grip and D from the start we could tell that made a big difference. When we finished the last part of the promenade, wewere a bit tired for two reasons. (By the way, it has) we finished 26 minutes in the second half. First, we were a little tired, which deal in part to the absence of D. Secondly, the power was transmitted. At Bosch, we could not say how much power it transfers to the work, but after using a different brand for the last half, we could really see that the transfer was from Bosch have the strength, the chisel, instead of re – in the power tool. Over all, the Bosch was a greatTool for the job. Balanced, but was the best discovery of how much power they delegate to the work place of the body.

The next test was to provide an anchor in concrete walls. For this we have the Condrive 1000 Tapcon system. This was a breeze. The Bosch Bulldog hammer drill beat this without breaking a sweat. Even if we were not on the ceiling, wall or floor, it was very easy to control. As long as the game slightly to the right screw, you can fly through this withoutStripping a screw. Once you set the depth on the Bulldog, there was no problem. The only minor obstacle we encountered was the screws. If we use the TAPCON screws, we could really too little and keep up with no problem. The off-brand screws are not always or head broke fairly easily, but this is more due to the screw or human error, not the Bosch Bulldog.

We ran a few tests to evaluate durability, but we had a hard time running this tool is too hot. It runs very cool. Aboutall this is a great drill. So if you are looking always a hammer drill, definitely take a look at the Bosch Bulldog.

Pro
D handle, good transfer of power, SDS system, big performance

Con's
It depends on what you use for that hammer. If you are in tight areas that receive not bad with the D-handle, but could not prevent some movement.

Professional Power Tool Guide Rating

Price
You get a lot of strength and a lot of tools for the price. This was a test on 7 / 8 ", for a little more money you can use the 1" SDS, which could be better preserved.

Performance
There are no questions about the performance. It does everything you want. More than enough power.

Ease of Use
As with most of Bosch Power Tools, this is very easy to use and has great balance.

Features
With the hammer, drill or rotary hammer, there are more than enough opportunities to do the work. The trigger is very easy to hold, to get it right willSpeed.

Balance
This tool has a good balance. The front part of the power tool has a good balance for themselves. With the D-handle, you can easily control your work. You will get in the end, because the ability to keep tired of working with a well balanced tool.

Feel
This is a very strong power tool. When you pick up this drill, you can balance. It does not seem cheap. To keep only good from the power tools in hand.

Overall
Overallwe give this a "5 Blade" The Bosch hammer drill has a great balance, lots of power and the SDS system makes it easy to change bits on the jump. The case has more than enough space to store bits and screws, which is a nice feature, too.
